The SB Bowling Notes (Vol. 2, Year 2, 2/2/2008)

Saturday, February 2, 2008, 12:19 PM EST [General]

Once again the SB notes of the sh**tiest blog on the internet. I have been struggling with the change in oil pattern at the bowling center in Mayaguez. They basically reduced the pattern from 38ft to 36ft. And maintaining the "top-hat" pattern, has made my life bowling there very difficult. Eventhough, my Thursday team made it through 3 other teams during the step-ladder finals to become the league champions, something many though that it would never happen.

In the beggining we struggled as a team, but in the end we had unity and the end result was the championship and some extra money in our pockets. We also had the team high game (908) and the team high series (2512). At least I managed to bowl a 191 in the championship match eventhough I was struggling, so I was happy.

I may suck as a bowler, but at least I can say that I have 8 league championships and there is still the Friday league step-ladder which is next Friday. We'll see what happens.

Until next time, good luck and good bowling.

The SB Bowling Notes (Vol.1, Year 2, 1/6/2008)

Sunday, January 6, 2008, 12:07 PM EST [General]

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Best wishes to all my friends out there and hoping that this year will bring many 300's, 800's, league and tournament championships, etc...

This was going to be my retirement year, since I felt that I wouldn't be able to accomplish anything more than what I have done. So far I have 7 league titles and (8) 700's. Since where I bowl at things are really getting very bad. Before the Christmas break, management decided to try to fix it's lane conditioner doing a horrific job. The following day during the Friday league, the machine added NO OIL in the middle and put about 4 boards of oil to the outside. I couldn't even get my plastic to hit the pocket, and with an end result of dropping my average to 206. The machine is asking for retirement and management dosen't want to understand that; even the lanes are not yet certified. So after 6 years of bowling at Western Bowling and seeing that I am not going to get any further with this type of situation I had made a decision to retire from bowling. I was so decided that I went to the parking lot and threw my equipment there. One of my champion teammates from the Saturday league picked it up.

I have been pressured by some of the YABA members from Mayaguez and Ponce to continue, and given an option to bowl in a diffrent center which is Bolera Caribe in Ponce. Interesting enough, I joined a club there and quickly got a "pernil" in a drawing that they had. Started with 740 in 4 games; and being a no-talent bowler this was great for me. This center is totally different than Mayaguez. Mayaguez pattern is a Top-Hat pattern but there is no oil for the 1st 8 boards on each side and heavy oil in the middle with big time carrydown. Ponce on the other hand has oil on all boards and the backend is sharp clean. In Mayaguez I would use a plastic ball, throw it around the 5 board and get many stikes. In Ponce that dosen't work, now I use a reactive around the 10 board.

The good thing about the change; making new friends. I recently met a person who regularly bowls in New York and usually comes to visit family and friends and he is a great guy. He actually saw this site and was wondering who I was since he had come to Ponce before and never saw me; so it was a surprise for him to actually see me and for me to know that he had seen the site. He's an excellent bowler and always helping out and giving tips. Like I said a great guy and I hope in the future I can go back to New York and visit him.

I played a NO-TAP tournament and in 3 games hit 705. There's another one coming next weekend so I am looking foward to improve that. Based on what I do here I will finally decide to keep going or not. As far as Mayaguez goes. My leagues there finish in February, and I will stay to finish these leagues and then it's no more bowling there. I might just stick with only Friday's and a once a month club there just for the fact that I help manage those leagues. The Thursday and Saturday leagues I definately will not continue.

Well that's enough garbage for now. Best wishes to all and hopfully 2008 will be a year of great things. (We'll see....)

    Good luck to all.

The SB Bowling Notes (Vol. 2, Year 1, 11/04/2007)

Sunday, November 4, 2007, 09:52 PM EST [General]

Once agin the SB Bowling Notes of the week. Today I was at Cupey watching my fellow Saturday league team-mates and YABA bowlers battle it out in an elimination tournament to pick the team members to represent Puerto Rico for a big Tournament at Florida next year. A special shout out to my fellow DX members that made the top 6 in ranking, MIKA and Luis Mi.

The Saturday league ended yesterday and with the end result; TEAM DX becoming the league CHAMPIONS!!! We needed 2 points to secure the championship and actually got all 4 points. At least I finally ended the 5 week 600 series drought with a 649 series. Later I'll include photos of the party and the league award ceremonies. Kudos to the other award winners of the league which I hope to post later and especially my partners MIKA, Luis Mi and Merced. GREAT JOB!!!

As far as Thursday is concerned, since I didn't play, avg. stayed at 197. The team: Las Sobras W2-L2 and is still 2nd place for now.

Fridays continue with the "miracle" pace. An 859 series to keep the avg. in 211 after 41 games. The team: Drinking Team Part 2 W4-L1 and still 1st place with an 11 point lead.

    Until next time.

The SB Bowling Notes (Vol.1, Year 1, 10/22/2007)

Monday, October 22, 2007, 10:54 PM EST [General]

I start off with a name change to the blog, just to avoid infringement for using "this week in..." So now it's just the sh**ty bowler bowling notes of the week, JA JA.

My bowling has been continuing it's rollercoaster path. Start regular to high on Thursdays, super high on Friday's (kinda wish it was Friday everyday I bowl), and Saturday's "ROCK BOTTOM". This past Thursday was the only exception, I managed to bowl 667 (234, 248, 185). The sad thing was that I stringed 11 strikes in a row; but in between 2 games and even worse the team lost all 4 points. AHHHHH, so sad. The only relief was that the team is still 2nd. Here my average is at 197.

Friday, I stumbled the week before with a 178 game. My team-mates did all the work to win and maintain 1st place. Now, with the absence of one of the members; I had to play all of the games but everything worked super good. I bowled a 925 series in 4 games (217, 196, 268, 244). All points were won (5). The team is still 1st place with average at 210.97.

Saturday, went to a down hill spiral. So many 9's, drove me crazy. I started with a 200 game and then the other 2 games in the 170's. Here my team lost all 4 points. We are still 1st but with only a 3 point lead. Here average is at 198.

Hopefully, my friends at bowlspace have been doing well and better.

    Until next time.
